Don’t condone charging of unapproved fees — School boards urged
Boards of senior high schools have been urged to not condone the charging of unapproved fees by schools.
The District Director of Education for Mfantseman, Mr Bartholomew Ofori, said the boards had the mandate to ensure that the schools charged only fees approved by the Ghana Education Service (GES).
Mr Ofori gave the advice when he inaugurated a new board for the Methodist Senior High School at Saltpond last Wednesday.
The board is chaired by the Methodist Bishop of Cape Coast, Rt Rev. Ebenezer Abakah-Wilson.
Mr Ofori also appealed to the board not to usurp the powers of the school heads but to bring their expertise to bear on the school’s activities by ensuring the effective management of the school through proper supervision and administration of resources.
Chairman
Rt Rev. Abakah-Wilson pledged that the board would work to further enhance discipline in the school and improve academic excellence.
He said education should not be considered as luxury but a necessity for development, and commended the school for the many successes chalked up over the years.
Rt Rev. Abakah-Wilson also paid tribute to the founder members of the school and charged present stakeholders to work harder on academic development, discipline and good moral upbringing of the students to make the school one of the best in the country.
Very Rev. Isaac Aidoo, Headmaster of the school, thanked members of the old board for their hard work which he said propelled the school to greater heights and pledged to work with the new board to attain more laurels.
