She urged the students to make use of the invaluable lessons learnt at the university in shaping their aspirations and be good examples wherever they found themselves.

“Let us be fearless in the face of new challenges and resilient in the pursuit of our dreams. Wherever we find ourselves, let us shine like quasars, illuminating the path for others,” she said.

She was speaking at the graduation ceremony at the Archer Cornfield Courtyard at the Ashesi University to celebrate the Class of 2024.

Recounting her experience upon admission to study computer science, she said there was skepticism as she was a woman.

“I was filled with both excitement and uncertainty. Starting my journey online, I was brimming with enthusiasm. However, when I mentioned my intention to major in computer science, I often heard remarks about how many women drop the major after their first or second year.

“These comments planted seeds of doubt, leading me to consider changing my major multiple times,” she said.

Appeal, commendation

She appealed to the leadership of the school to continue to transform students who are admitted to the school to shape them into extraordinary men and women that the world desires.

“To the leadership and faculty, I urge you to continue the exceptional work you are doing.

“There are students like me who will seize the opportunities you offer and blossom into something extraordinary,” she stated.

She commended the staff of the university for their support and challenged them to think critically. She also commended her supervisor especially.

“I am especially grateful to the Ashesi Career Services for allowing me to explore various facets of my abilities while still a student.

“I am thankful for the growth this institution has nurtured within me. I would also like to say a special thank you to my supervisor, Dennis Asamoah Owusu,” the valedictorian said.

Appreciation

The valedictorian expressed gratitude for the opportunity to have been mentored by distinguished professionals who shaped her dream of reading computer science as a young female.

“I am deeply grateful for the unique opportunities this institution has provided—opportunities to engage with a diverse range of individuals. One encounter in particular with a coach profoundly shaped my journey here.

Their mentorship and advice ensured that the challenges I faced only fueled my determination to defy stereotypes and push my limits,” she said.
