Premier League: Arsenal beat Fulham to go six points clear at the top
Arsenal moved six points clear at the top of the Premier League after a dominant 3-0 win over Fulham at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, with Bukayo Saka starring and Viktor Gyokeres taking his season tally to 21 goals.
Mikel Arteta’s side capitalised on the opportunity to extend their lead over title rivals Manchester City, who have two games in hand and face Everton on Monday.
Arsenal made a bright start, going ahead in the ninth minute. Saka, making his first start since March after recovering from an Achilles injury, beat Raul Jimenez down the right and set up Gyokeres for a simple close-range finish.
Gyokeres then turned provider five minutes before half-time, slipping a pass to Saka, who curled a precise low shot past Bernd Leno at his near post.
The Swedish striker added his second of the night in first-half stoppage time, heading home a cross from Leandro Trossard to seal the three points.
Arsenal nearly added a fourth, with Riccardo Calafiori hitting the crossbar after having an earlier effort ruled out for offside.
With a comfortable lead, Arteta made five changes and was able to rest key players, including Saka at half-time, as attention turns to their UEFA Champions League semi-final second leg against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday, with the tie finely balanced at 1-1.
Fulham will look to bounce back when they host Bournemouth next Saturday.
