KAAF university gains presidential charter, attains full autonomy

KAAF University has been granted a Presidential Charter, marking a major milestone in its academic journey and securing its status as a fully autonomous institution.

This places KAAF University among 13 private institutions that have met the national standards for independence in tertiary education.

Addressing the students at the launch of a new logo for the university on Wednesday, March 2025, the Registrar of KAAF University, Mr Frimpong Okyere on behalf of the institution described the achievement as the result of a rigorous multi-stage review process conducted by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC).

The evaluation assessed governance, management, infrastructure, curriculum development, finances, and societal engagement.

“KAAF University is pleased to announce that at a formal ceremony held at the Flagstaff House on December 19, 2024, the President of the Republic of Ghana officially granted a Presidential Charter to KAAF University alongside thirteen other private universities that have met the required standards of autonomy and excellence in tertiary education.

This Presidential Charter, which signifies the highest achievement for a tertiary institution in Ghana, gives KAAF University the power to award its own certificates, diplomas and degrees for all its programmes accredited by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC)”, it announced.

 Journey of academic growth

Established in 2006 with the motto "Knowledge and Excellence," KAAF University initially operated under formal affiliations in line with Ghana’s higher education legal framework.

The institution obtained its first accreditation in 2010 and applied for a Presidential Charter in April 2022. Following an extensive review process, final approval was granted in early 2024.

Strengthening global competitiveness

With its new autonomous status, KAAF University aims to expand its STEM education, research capabilities, and international partnerships.

Management has pledged to introduce innovative programmes and enhance global competitiveness to meet 21st-century industry demands.

“The Presidential Charter is not just an achievement for KAAF University but a responsibility to continue delivering world-class education and fostering innovation,” the statement added.

With this milestone, KAAF University has reaffirmed its commitment to producing top-tier graduates, advancing human capital development, and positioning itself as a key player in Ghana’s higher education sector.
