KOMENSTEC final-year students build capacities

The Old Students Union of the Komenda Senior Technical School (KOMENSTEC) has organised a seminar for the final-year students on entrepreneurship to build their capacities for start-up businesses.

The theme for the seminar was: “Entrepreneurship, Turning your skills into profit”.

Seek mentors

An Investment and Corporate Trainer, Mr Emmanuel Tiifu Jamani, in his address, asked the students to seek mentors in their fields of interest and seek support and guidance for their future goals.

He noted that having entrepreneurship skills was seeing opportunities in problems, and making profit when solving the problem. He said it was important to build characters, including self-motivation and learning, to take calculated risk to ensure successful business set-ups.

Build networks

Again, he said it was important to learn how to build network with others, be creative and have basic money management skills and knowledge to survive the entrepreneurship terrain.

“If you want to succeed as an entrepreneur, you need to be able to push yourself and be dedicated to plan and keep moving forward,” he added.

Mr Jamani urged them to develop the ability to take risk to connect with others and recognise partnership opportunities that could help them make a living.

Be innovative

He further advised them to be innovative and creative and remove the thought of impossibilities to achieve success.

The President of KOMENSTEC Old Students Union (KOSU), Mr Ebenezer Ackon, noted that the seminar, which was organised in collaboration with Databank, was to train the students to acquire more knowledge to turn ideas into profitable opportunities.

Addressing the students, he said the seminar was being held to expose them to challenges and opportunities which would benefit them.

He said the executive, after their induction into office, had pledged to organise seminars for the students to expose them to the world outside and prepare them for it, saying the seminar was in fulfilment of that promise.

He said the first seminar was held last year for final-year students of the school and added that he was hopeful that the seminar would afford them the opportunity to overcome the challenges of the globally competitive world.
