Prof Johnson Nyarko Boampong's tenure as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) ended on September 18, 2025, on the day he attained age 60, the University Council has announced.
At the 124th Regular Meeting of the University Governing Council held on Thursday, November 27, 2025, the council reviewed the appointment of Prof. Johnson Nyarko Boampong as Vice-Chancellor.
The review was premised on the discontinuance of the case (John Mevemeo v. University of Cape Coast and Prof. Johnson Nyarko Boampong) and the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission's directive on the compulsory retirement age of 60.
In a notice seen by Graphic Online, dated Friday, November 28, 2025, signed by Gideon Enoch Abbeyquaye as Registrar and Secretary to Council, and copied to the Minister of Education, it was announced that the Council concluded that the two-year extension of Prof. Johnson Nyarko Boampong's term as Vice-Chancellor was in violation of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, which is the supreme law of the land.
It said to ensure compliance, Council has revised the end of his second term to 18th September, 2025 (the date on which he attained 60 years).

The University community and the general public has therefore been notified that the tenure of Prof. Johnson Nyarko Boampong as Vice-Chancellor ceased on September 18, 2025, in accordance with the University's Statutes and the Constitution of Ghana.
It said the revised tenure therefore supersedes the earlier letter of extension (28th July, 2023) issued by the University Governing Council.
