3 Nigerian nationals noted for stealing from parked vehicles in Kumasi jailed 20 years each in hard labour

Three Nigerian nationals, noted from stealing from parked vehicles in Kumasi, have heen sentenced to 20 years each in prison in hard labour.

They have also been found guilty on other counts and sentenced to additional jail terms of 10 years and eight years.

All the sentences are to run concurrently. 

The Ashanti Regional Police Command made the convictions known in a press statement issued by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Godwin Ahianyo, who is the Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the regional command.

According to Mr Ahianyo, the convicts, Francis Friday, Linus Agwazie and Russell Ekenze, were arrested on June 20, 2025, after a series of thefts in Kumasi and were first arraigned at the Atasemanso Circuit Court.

Ekenze pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment in hard labour.

Friday and Agwazie, pleaded not guilty.

Later the cases of Friday and Agwazie were heard at the Kumasi Circuit Court 3. 

They were founf guilty and sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment each on two counts, with the sentences to run concurrently.

On the same day, Circuit Court 1 heard additional charges against all three and sentenced them to 20 years’ imprisonment in hard labour each on two counts.

Mr Ahianyo said Ekenze was again convicted at Circuit Court 2 on July 24, 2025, where he was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment on two counts, to run concurrently with his earlier sentences.

“All three convicts, Francis Friday, Linus Agwazie and Russell Ekenze, are currently serving their sentences at the Kumasi Central Prison,” he stated.
