6 Aggrey Memorial students arrested over assault on Adisadel student at Interco

The Central Regional Command of the Ghana Police Service has arrested six students in connection with the alleged assault of a final year student of Adisadel College in Cape Coast.

According to a police press release dated February 24, the suspects, all students of Aggrey Memorial Senior High School, were handed over to the Kotokuraba Police Station by school authorities on the evening of February 20 after reports that they had attacked Rexford Owusu Ansah at Pedu Junction earlier that day.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the incident occurred after the final day of an inter colleges sports festival at the Cape Coast Stadium. The victim was reportedly leaving the venue with two friends when the suspects confronted them, allegedly over whether they attended Adisadel College, before launching the attack.

Police say the victim’s companions managed to escape, but he was overpowered, beaten and robbed of his iPhone 17 Pro Max, shoes and approximately GH¢1,400 in cash.

He sustained serious injuries and was initially treated at the stadium clinic before being referred to the Cape Coast Regional Hospital, where he was discharged on February 22.

Medical reports indicate that the student suffered a fractured bone near his right eye, leaving him unable to open it, with concerns about severe damage to the eyeball.

The Central Regional Police Command has condemned the violence and assured the public that due process will be followed, emphasising that the juvenile suspects will face the full rigours of the law if found culpable. Investigations are ongoing.
