The occasion was also used to raise funds in support of the town’s education endowment fund.

Speaking at the function, Barima Achiaw thanked the chiefs and the people for their support and encouragement which had brought development during the period of his reign.

He stated that during his reign, a community senior high school was established to provide second cycle education to students who passed out of junior high schools in the area.

In addition, a primary school, a three-unit-classroom block, was established at Tano Ano, a village near the town.

Barima Achiaw added that through the efforts of the people, a police station had been built to curb crime in the area, while three cocoa farms had been cultivated at Yaa Aboraakrom, Tano Ano and Yaw Miri to raise funds.

Concerning the education endowment fund, the chief said about GH¢70,000 had been realised and spent over the past seven years to offer scholarships to needy, brilliant students in the town.

Some students in the senior high schools, polytechnics  and universities in the country had benefited from the fund to pursue their academic endeavours.

The Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Kwasi Oppong-Ababio, called for unity among the chief and people of the town to ensure development.

He asked the youth to desist from social vices and rather concentrate on their education or learn a vocation to enable them to be self-sufficient in future.

Mr Oppong-Ababio cautioned against chieftaincy and land disputes, which he described as agents of retrogression and underdevelopment.

The occasion was jointly chaired by Nana Kwame Ennin, Managing Director of Tyco City in Sunyani, and Mr Joseph Konadu, Managing Director of Joekona Construction Works,  both citizens of the town.

They pledged their support to efforts being made to facelift the town, and called for unity in the town.
