ABL presents cash, products for GJA awards

The Accra Brewery Limited (ABL) has presented a cheque for GH¢50,000 and cartons of assorted drinks worth GH¢4,000 to the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) for the organisation of this year’s GJA awards.

Speaking at a brief event in Accra yesterday, the President of the GJA, Mr Affail Monney, said the ABL had over the years supported the association in the organisation of the awards.

He stressed that the company also supported the association in the organisation of training programmes designed to improve the capacity of journalists.

Development journalism 

The event, which will have Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, as the Special Guest of Honour, will be held on August 30 on the theme, “Using development journalism to discern and defend the national interest”.

Mr Monney said the theme was chosen to encourage journalists to use their resources to promote development in the country.

He stated that the country faced numerous challenges in various sectors, and expressed the hope that “the theme will make us more development- conscious”.

The Corporate and Legal Affairs Director of the ABL, Ms Adjoba Kyiamah, said the donation formed part of the company’s efforts at assisting the association to improve the practice of journalism.

She added that the company was committed to ensuring excellence and the freedom of the media and gave the assurance that the company would always support journalists in their work.

“It is our belief that a discerning media will engage in responsible, accurate and credible news reportage which fuels the development of a vibrant economy for the achievement of a nationalistic goal”,  she said.
