Adabraka: Fire destroys property at Budget Deco warehouse near Graphic press

The warehouse of Budget Deco near the premises of the DTRT Group, a leading apparel manufacturer located at Adabraka near the Graphic Press in Accra, caught fire on Thursday evening.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded to the distress call to battle the fire.

Seven appliances were deployed by the GNFS to fight the fire.

The fire reportedly started around 3:30 pm. As of 5:30 pm, personnel from the GNFS were still battling the fire.

They were later able to confine the fire.

Some eyewitnesses and the fire personnel shared information on the incident with Graphic Online in the attached video below.

The major fire was contained and extinguished after nearly eight hours of intense firefighting operations by the GNFS.

A turntable ladder, was mobilised to the scene. The prolonged blaze destroyed curtains, floor carpets, flowers, upholstery, woollen carpets, and furniture, while parts of the warehouse structure collapsed due to the heat.

Despite the scale of the fire, adjoining properties, including a warehouse containing rice, a nearby hotel, and the DTRT textile and clothing warehouse, were saved by the swift intervention of firefighters.

The GNFS confirmed that one firefighter suffered smoke inhalation and was rushed to hospital for treatment.

Deputy Director of Operations, ACFO II Osmond Anum, and the Greater Accra Regional Commander, ACFO II Rashid Nisawu, together with other senior officers, provided leadership on the ground to support the teams tackling the blaze.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, with investigations underway.

In a statement, the GNFS expressed appreciation to all supporting agencies whose collaboration contributed to the successful containment of the inferno.
