The Aflao Sector Commander of CEPS, Mr Confidence David Nyadzi, said that was the second time within six months that the unit at Aflao had made such an arrest that could have eluded several security checkpoints in the country.

He said in December last year, an empty Nigerian cargo truck was arrested for more than 900,000 cartridges and Indian hemp concealed in chambers beneath it and the current case involved another truck with Nigerian registration number MUS 139 XQ which was intercepted at the Dabala checkpoint last Tuesday.

Tricks of concealment

Mr Nyadzi said the goods were discovered concealed at the bottom of the vehicle with others wrapped in a tarpaulin.

He said the vehicle was escorted to Aflao for a thorough check after which the goods were discovered, adding that the driver, Mr Razak Osman, 31, and his mate, Mr Sallam Nuhu, 18, had been arrested and remanded in custody.

The goods intercepted were 145 full and 263 half pieces of wax print, 38 cartons of Hollanda Yoghurt, 40 cartons of Hollanda milk, 80 crates of Maltina drink, seven containers of vegetable oil, five crates of assorted drinks, 32 bundles of poly cotton and 14 packets of mosquito nets.
