The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has taken swift action following reports circulating on social media regarding an incident involving minors allegedly taken to a hotel in Accra New Town.
In a statement by the Authority, it mentioned that the case has been formally reported to the Nima Division of the Ghana Police Service for investigation.
It also stated that the CEO of GTA, Mrs. Maame Efua Houadjeto delegated a team from the GTA Head Office of Mr. Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey, Deputy CEO, Special Duties and Mr. Ekow Sampson, Deputy CEO, Operations who joined the Greater Accra Regional Director, Ms. Roberta Dawson-Amoah, and the Deputy Director of Marketing, Ms. Clara Nketiah, to visit the said facility.
A viral video on social media sparked the controversy, with a woman accusing Royal Dede Beach Resort of allegedly permitting minors to engage in intimate activities on its premises.
The move is in line with the Authority’s mandate to ensure safety and compliance in the tourism and hospitality sector.
In a post on X (Twitter), Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Abeiku Santana, confirmed that the Authority has reported Royal Dede Beach Resort, a hotel in Accra New Town to the police for investigation.
“The Ghana Tourism Authority has taken swift action following reports circulating on social media regarding concerns of minors allegedly taken to a hotel in Accra New Town. The case has been reported to the Nima Police Division for investigation,” he said.
The GTA investigation revealed that Royal Dede Beach Resort had been covertly operating as a hostel, bypassing regulatory standards.
“Additionally, our team inspected Royal Dede Beach Resort, which has been converted into a hostel under new management without official notification to the Ghana Tourism Authority. We discovered that the hostel’s operations were not in compliance with Regulations 2016, L. I 2239,”
He noted that the hotel operator has been referred to the GTA's Standards and Quality Assurance Department for regulatory compliance.
