Known as the Integrated Diagnostic Solutions Ltd, the centre, which is a subsidiary of New Crystal Health Services (NCHS), is to complement efforts of the government to provide health services for residents of Ashaiman.

The inauguration of the centre coincided with a blood donation exercise organised by the NCHS in collaboration with ace hip-life artiste, Okyeame Kwame, popularly known as the rap doctor.

The blood donation was held in response to reports of acute shortage of blood at the National Blood Bank.

Speaking at the inauguration of the diagnostic centre, the Chief Executive Officer of NCHS, Dr Wisdom Amegbletor, emphasised the need for the country to pay attention to health issues.

He said it was important for every person to know his or her state of health at all times by having regular tests at diagnostic centres. He added that regular blood donation was also important as the blood donated was used to assist the afflicted.

Dr Amegbletor said blood donation and regular checks went hand in hand and that explained why the management of NCHS decided to open the diagnostic centre and hold a blood donation exercise on the same day.

He urged the public to be guided by the significance of the two events throughout their lives.

Okyeame Kwame, who has embarked on several health-related projects, said it was important for people to donate blood to re-stock the National Blood Bank.

He said spending time with blood donors was a way of expressing his love for them. He urged the public to take issues pertaining to their health seriously and also regularly donate blood.

The Director of the Ashaiman Municipal Health Service, Dr Esi Therson Coffie, noted that healthcare delivery in the Ashaiman Municipality could not be carried out by the public sector alone and added that the opening of the diagnostic centre would ensure that “a greater proportion of our hardworking population at Ashaiman have access to quality diagnostic tests.”

She said allied health services were an important and integral part of health care, and explained that detecting and diagnosing disease more rapidly and at earlier stages even before symptoms became apparent was necessary.

The Unit Director of the Integrated Diagnostic Centre, Dr Carl Nii Lomotey Engmann, noted that the cost of medical care was keeping many people away from accessing good medical care.

He said the diagnostic centre was, therefore, set up to meet the “need of providing consistent, reliable, affordable and trusted service on time to our valued clients.”

He said the cost and package of services available at the centre were tailored to suit the demographics of Ashaiman and its environs, adding that the services covered food vendors, pre-employment screening and corporate workers, as well as people who are 40 years and above.

“These are different from the regular tests that individuals will request for,” he said.
