Ashanti: Six family members die in domestic fire outbreak at Abuakwa Manhyia

Six family members died in a domestic fire outbreak at Abuakwa Manhyia, near Wadoma Hotel, in the Ashanti Region on Monday (December 22, 2025).

The deceased, who are yet to be identified and belonged to the same family, were occupants in the seven-bedroom self-contained apartment.

Personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service received a distress call around 12:53 am, and a team from the Nkawie Fire Station rushed to the scene at 01:15 am to meet an advanced fire that was spreading rapidly.

Information gathered indicated that firefighting operations were later reinforced by personnel from the Twedie Fire Station.

Fortunately, the fire was brought under control at about 01:57 am and fully extinguished at 03:22am.

Sadly, despite the swift response, the seven-bedroom residential building was completely destroyed.

Firefighters retrieved six  badly charred bodies, believed to be members of the same family, burnt beyond recognition.

A statement issued by the GNFS and signed by the Ashanti Regional Public Relations Officer, GNFS, DO II Peter Addai said the bodies had been handed over to the Ghana Police Service for further investigations.

It said the fire personnel managed to prevent the fire from extending to other adjoining properties.

The GNFS extended its deepest condolences to the bereaved family and noted that investigations had commenced to determine the cause of the fire.

"The public is advised to avoid heavy burglar-proof doors and windows that trap occupants during emergencies," the service advised.

The service said it remains committed to protecting lives and property through prevention, education, enforcement, and rapid emergency response.
