The amount was a seed capital to assist the team that won the maiden edition of the Entrepreneurship Challenge contest organised by ASK, a network which was created within Royalhouse Chapel International (RCI).

The award was announced after a well-subscribed two-day Job Fair, that was organised by ASK Network, as part of the RCI’s World Movers Generation (WMG) annual Movers & Shakers Conference that gathered over 7000 Christian youth at the University of Ghana over a weekend.

Applications

The Entrepreneurship Challenge received hundreds of start-up applications after which the top five were shortlisted to present their business plans before a panel of judges made up of seasoned entrepreneurs namely Kojo Hastings, Chairman, Genelec Holdings Limited; Rosy Fynn, Marketing Director, Airtel Ghana; Cecilia Dei-Anang, CEO of Imago-Connect Limited; Sophia Antonio, Financial Director, La Palm Royal Beach Hotel; Albert Kusi, CEO, LEC Foundation, and John Apea, Regional Director, Commonwealth Office, Africa.

Team Initiate, a start-up chilli pepper farm company, emerged as winners of the Entrepreneurship Challenge after a grueling two hours of questions from the judges.

Business idea

For their prize they were awarded GH¢10,000 as seed capital to support their business idea. Second to fifth place finalists were each given GH¢2,500 as consolation prizes.

In an address, the Apostle General of the RCI, Rev. Sam Korankye Ankrah, reiterated the need to invest in the younger generation, saying, “All over the world, the youth have been seen as vestiges of despair. At Royalhouse, we believe that the youth are pillars of hope and pillars of strength for Ghana, for Africa and the world”.

Similarly, the Head of PR for ASK Network, David Doku, encouraged participants in the Job Fair to always seek for direction and guidance in their career choices. He added that “our organisation is empowered and adequately resourced to continue to support young people who desire to excel at whatever ventures they undertake”.
