CID arrests Maxwell Kofi Jumah over alleged theft of company vehicles

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has arrested former Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries, Mr Maxwell Kofi Jumah, over the alleged theft of vehicles belonging to the state-owned company.

The arrest was confirmed by the Director-General of the CID, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Lydia Yaako Donkor, at a press briefing in Accra on Monday [June 30, 2025].

According to DCOP Donkor, the arrest followed a formal complaint by GIHOC Distilleries Company Limited, accusing Mr Jumah of unlawfully taking possession of company vehicles after leaving office.

She said a warrant was obtained, and the former GIHOC boss is currently in custody at the CID headquarters in Accra.

“As of this afternoon, we have retrieved three vehicles connected to the case,” DCOP Donkor stated. “Mr Jumah is assisting us with ongoing investigations, and appropriate legal steps will be taken.”

The police did not disclose the total number of vehicles involved or their estimated value. The case, according to the CID, remains under active investigation.

Mr Jumah, who previously served as Mayor of Kumasi from 2001 to 2004, also served Member of Parliament for Asokwa from 2005 to 2012.

He became Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries in 2017 until his exit in 2025.

The police have assured the public that investigations will be handled thoroughly and professionally. Further details will be released as the process continues.
