The motorbikes, which were handed over to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr John Kudalor, are expected to help personnel of the Community Police Department to fight crime and maintain peace and order in the country.

At a brief ceremony to present the motorbikes, the Managing Director of Caitec Delta Limited, Mr Tang Hong, said the donation formed part of the company’s social responsibility efforts.

He said he was hopeful that the motorbikes would further improve on the operations of the police service.

The motorbikes, he said, would not only make movement from the police stations to the doorstep of the public easy but also help the police service to fight and reduce the rate of crime in the country.

IGP on benefits of motorbikes
the IGP said the police administration considered the community policing concept as crucial in the fight against crime, as it made personnel of the service visible and accessible to the public.

He said the motorbikes would go a long way to help the police in their operations as they strived to instil peace and order in the country.

He said the Ghana Police Service had benefited a lot from the Chinese government and, therefore, commended the Chinese company based in Ghana for complementing the support of the Chinese government.

“Caitec has supported us in numerous ways. As a responsible corporate institution, it has realised that the company cannot grow alone or succeed and progress without the safety and security of the citizenry who would purchase its items,” he said.

With the motorbikes, Mr Kudalor said the police personnel deployed to patrol in the community could go after criminals who use motorbikes to commit crimes “because motorbikes are convenient, fast and swift and can manoeuvre.”

Ghana-China cooperation
The Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Ms Sun Baohong, said the donation would promote the good bilateral relationship between the two countries, which had been in existence for the past 55 years.

She said Caitec Delta Limited had been playing a leading role in taking advantage of opportunities to build the capacity of law enforcement agencies, especially the Ghana Police Service.

Ms Baohong stated that the Ghana Police Services had contributed to Ghana’s development through the performance of its mandate of maintaining law and order and protecting lives and property.

The Director of the Community Policing, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mrs Habiba Twumasi Sarpong, noted that Caitec Delta Limited had continued to provide logistical support to the department.

She recalled that the last donation the company presented to the Community Police Department was make up of 12 motorbikes to facilitate its operations.
