The pledge follows the reopening of the rehabilitated restaurant last Saturday. Some enraged youth vandalised the restaurant six weeks ago, for allegedly harbouring a police officer whom they claimed had shot and killed a taxi driver.

They burnt down a delivery van belonging to the company and smashed two vehicles belonging to Alhaji Bature Iddrisu, the Managing Editor of the Al-Hajj newspaper.

Also destroyed in the melee were a flat screen television, air conditioners, fridges, chairs, tables and the glass doors of the restaurant.

The mob did not spare the prepared food and meat, nor the fresh meat in the freezers.

We will serve you

The Chief Executive Officer of the Marwarko Fast Food Restaurant, Alhaji  Marwan Sharban, thanked the chiefs and the opinion leaders in the community, especially Alhaji Ibrahim Mahama, for their support during the trying times.

He said the incident, though not laudable, had renewed the bond of friendship between the company and the people in the community.

He, therefore, assured them that management of the fast food restaurant would continue to support the people in the community and also provide jobs for the youth saying, “Our doors are open for you because we are here to serve you.”

Be responsible citizens

The National Chief Imam, Shiekh Osumanu Nuhu Sharubutu, who cut the tape to signify the re-opening of the restaurant, prayed for the success of the company and also charged the youth to seek knowledge and education at all times rather than engage in behaviours that would negatively affect their lives in the future.

Speaking on behalf of the chiefs in Mamobi, the Public Relations Officer of the National Council of Muslim Chiefs , Alhaji Moro Baba Issah, said the incident should serve as a wake-up call to residents in the community.

He said they had to be proactive, vigilant and cautious about everything that happened around them, adding that: “We must be prepared to sacrifice and give a good image of our community which has sheltered and protected us.”

Alhaji Issah, therefore, commended the decision of the management of the restaurant to reopen the fast food joint in the community and assured them of the people’s support and co-operation.

The Managing Editor of the Al-Hajj newspaper, Alhaji Bature Iddrisu, in his remarks, charged the youth to be responsible citizens and desist from violent behaviours.
