VIDEO: Minority urges public to boycott ORAL Committee investigations
The Minority in Parliament has called on all individuals invited by the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) committee to boycott the ongoing investigations into alleged corruption-related activities.
The group argues that the committee lacks the legal mandate to conduct such probes, emphasising that constitutionally established institutions are responsible for investigating and addressing corruption cases.
At a press briefing held in Parliament on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, the Member of Parliament for Suame, John Darko, categorically declared that the Minority would not participate in ORAL’s activities.
“Our advice to you from the Minority is to boycott any invitation from the ORAL team. We are not going to be part of it because we believe that there are constitutionally established bodies that investigate any so-called misdeeds for the government,” he stated.
Allegations against ORAL’s operations
Mr. Darko criticised the ORAL team, accusing them of using heavy-handed methods in their quest to recover state assets.
“What they (ORAL) are doing is to go about disturbing people, entering homes, seizing vehicles, and more or less taking over lands from people who have genuinely purchased them,” he alleged.
He defended former government officials, asserting that their acquisition of properties had been lawful. “What the former government officials have done is to acquire properties that legally, they will acquire. No illegality has taken place,” he said.
Mr. Darko further alleged that the ORAL committee’s efforts were politically motivated, aimed solely at former government officials, and accused members of the current administration of similar practices.
“In any case, the NDC, their members have also acquired lands in this country. The Executive, Okudzeto Ablakwa and co, they live in the Cantonments, they live in the Airports, they live in the Tse-Addos, lands which were government lands, which they bought many years ago,” he claimed.
He urged Ghanaians not to tolerate ORAL’s operations, which he described as a tool for persecuting political opponents.
The Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) committee was established on December 18, 2024 and is chaired by the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa. The committee’s mandate is to recover looted state assets and ensure accountability in the use of public resources.
