LPG tanker overturns on Tema Harbour road
An LPG tanker carrying liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) overturned on Friday on the Tema Harbour Road, disrupting vehicular traffic flow.
The accident occurred at about 2:00 a.m. on Friday [June 19, 2026], on the stretch of road between Krom Pub and the Tema Technical Institute, according to firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service who responded to the distress call.
The tanker, with the registration number 4615 T.03 and believed to be from Côte d'Ivoire, was found lying on its side by the roadside, with wheels and undercarriage fully exposed.

The vehicle was transporting LPG, a highly flammable product, from Tema towards the motorway, prompting emergency responders to take precautionary measures to prevent a possible fire outbreak or explosion.
There were no immediate reports of casualties, fire, or a major gas leak at the time of the incident.
Firefighters cordoned off parts of the area and monitored the situation while efforts were made to secure the tanker and ensure public safety.

Preliminary investigations, according to firefighters at the scene, suggested that the driver may have lost control of the vehicle after hitting one of the numerous potholes on the deteriorated stretch of road.
A firefighter at the scene told Graphic Online that operators of the depot from which the product was loaded had been called to provide an empty truck to facilitate the offloading of the gas and clear the road for safe use.
Meanwhile, some drivers told Graphic Online that the affected section of the Tema Harbour road has long been plagued by deep potholes and uneven surfaces, posing a significant danger to both heavy-duty trucks and smaller vehicles.
A trotro driver, Moses Gyamfi, expressed concern about the poor state of the road and called on the relevant authorities to undertake urgent repairs to prevent similar accidents in the future.
