NACOC raids Central University: 5 Students in custody over cannabis-infused ice cream and toffees

The management of Central University (CU) has confirmed that it is engaging the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) following the arrest of five students over their alleged involvement in the production and sale of cannabis and cannabis-infused products on campus.

In a statement issued on June 19, 2026, the university said it had become aware of media reports concerning the five individuals currently in NACOC custody following an incident that reportedly occurred during a programme associated with the Students' Representative Council (SRC) Week celebrations.

"At this stage, the University is engaging with NACOC and other relevant authorities to establish the facts and obtain verified information regarding the circumstances surrounding the matter," the statement signed by the Registrar said. 

"As investigations are ongoing, Management considers it important to avoid speculation and allow the due process of the law to take its course" .

The suspects said to be in Levels 100, 300, and 400, were reportedly picked up following intelligence gathered on illicit drug activities within the university community. 

According to preliminary investigations, the students were allegedly engaged in the production and sale of cannabis-infused ice cream, sobolo, toffees, pepper, and eggs, while also dealing in raw cannabis. 

The operation uncovered quantities of suspected substances, which have been seized for forensic examination.

As a precautionary measure and in the interest of ensuring order and safety on campus, the university has suspended all remaining SRC Week activities pending a review of the circumstances surrounding the incident and existing event management protocols.

NACOC officials have reaffirmed their commitment to combating drug-related activities in educational institutions, warning students against involvement in the trafficking and consumption of narcotic substances. 

The arrested students are expected to assist investigators as authorities work to unravel the full scope of the alleged operation and identify any additional persons connected to the trade.

Management assured students, staff, parents, alumni, and the general public that the University is cooperating fully with the relevant authorities and remains committed to upholding the highest standards of discipline, safety, and institutional integrity.
