The Kwame Nkrumah Circle road in the Greater Accra Region has been reopened to the public.

The stretch of road was closed to vehicular and human traffic after a fire outbreak at the Circle branch of the Goil filling station behind the GCB Towers last Wednesday.

The cause of the fire which is yet to be identified followed several hours of rainfall which left some parts of the capital flooded, resulting in the death of 152 persons and destruction of properties worth millions of Ghana cedis.

The road was closed to prevent motorists and pedestrians from interfering with investigations at the crime scene.

However, according to police authorities at the scene, the closing of the road had affected commuters travelling towards the Central Business District (CBD) of Accra, necessitating its reopening.

The remains of the Goil filling station has, however, been fenced with aluminium sheets to prevent the public from interfering with works at the site.
