Each of the three beneficiary regions received 10,000 exercise books and pens during the distribution which was done between June 15 and 29, 2016.

The Marketing Manager of Samara Company Limited, Mr Sedrick Ologo, indicated that the initiative was mooted in 2014 with the aim of providing schoolchildren nationwide with essential educational materials.

“Last year, 100,000 exercise books were given out to pupils in all 10 regions. This year, we have so far covered the Western, Central and Volta regions and already 30,000 books have been given out,” he said.

Basic education

He was of the view that the basic level in education was the most crucial in every child’s life, stressing that whatever happened at that level could affect the entire educational life of the child, positively or negatively.

Mr Ologo said that was why Samara Company Limited, producers of Sasso Insecticide Spray and Mosquito Coil, took it upon itself to support children at the basic level.

“For us at Samara, we believe that the basic education of every child in Ghana needs to be strengthened because it has a direct effect on the child’s future education. That is why we have taken it upon ourselves to give them exercise books to enhance their studies,” he stressed, adding that the initiative was progressing every year with the addition of pens this year.

Ghanaian loyalty

Mr Ologo attributed the success of the book distribution programme to Ghanaians’ loyalty to the Sasso brand which had made the company to win awards, including the recent “Africa’s Best Insecticide Brand 2016” award given by the Institute for Government Research and Leadership Technology, a Nigerian government agency.

He disclosed that the remaining seven regions —  Ashanti, Brong Ahafo, Eastern, Greater Accra and the three northern regions — would receive their books in the coming weeks.

About 4,000 pupils selected from basic schools in the Shama-Ahanta East municipality, New Takoradi, Sekondi, Takoradi, Tarkwa, Tarkwa Nsuaem, Essamang and Mporhor received the exercise books and pens in the Western Region, while in the Central Region schools selected from the Agona Bobikuma, Anomabo, Elmina, Oguaa and Yamoransa were the beneficiaries

In the Volta Region, pupils from schools including the Volta School for the Deaf, Hohoe Musama M/A Basic School, St Francis College Demo School, Gbi Kpeme M/A School, Beverly Hills Academy, Ho Polytechnic Basic School, JCK Holy Spirit Catholic Preparatory School, Anglican School, Sogakope EP Basic School, Agorhome R/C Basic school, Dzelukope EP Basic school, Tsiame EP Basic School, Tsiame R/C Basic school and Asadame A/M Zion school were also recipients.
