One person has been confirmed dead and two others injured in a fatal head-on collision at Adansi Akrokerri Junction on Wednesday, after a wrongful overtaking manoeuvre triggered a crash that drew an emergency response from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
According to the GNFS, the incident occurred at about 3:19 pm when a rescue team from the Fomena Fire Station, led by LFM Boateng, arrived at the scene. Preliminary investigations revealed that the driver of an Obuasi-bound Hyundai minivan (AS 8655-20) attempted a wrongful overtaking manoeuvre, resulting in a head-on collision with a Kumasi-bound Hyundai truck (AS 3948-24).
The impact left the two occupants of the truck with serious injuries. They were quickly transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The minivan driver, however, died on the spot.
Firefighters later extricated the deceased and handed the body over to the Jacobu District Police.
Both vehicles sustained severe frontal damage, with the truck veering into a ditch due to the force of the collision.
The GNFS has urged motorists to obey traffic regulations and avoid wrongful overtaking to help curb preventable road crashes.
