ECG launches "operation all must pay" to recover outstanding debts
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), in partnership with its workers’ union, has launched a nationwide revenue mobilisation drive dubbed "Operation All Must Pay", targeting customers with unpaid electricity bills.
The two-week campaign, scheduled from July 14 to 25, 2025, seeks to recover arrears owed by residential, commercial, industrial, and government entities in a bid to improve ECG’s financial stability and ensure reliable power delivery.
Speaking on the initiative, the General Manager of External Communications at ECG, Dr Charles Nii Ayiku Ayiku, stressed the campaign’s no-tolerance approach.
“Special teams will be deployed to ensure strict compliance, and we will be monitoring closely for illegal connections or unauthorised reconnections,” he said.
Dr Ayiku warned that defaulting customers risk immediate disconnection, additional reconnection charges, and possible legal action. He advised customers to make prompt payments via authorised platforms, particularly the ECG Mobile App, to avoid service disruptions.
The initiative comes amid growing concerns over revenue shortfalls due to widespread non-payment. ECG has identified this issue as a critical challenge to sustainable electricity supply in the country.
“This campaign is crucial for strengthening ECG’s financial health and improving service delivery nationwide,” Dr Ayiku noted.
As part of the operation, ECG teams will also conduct meter inspections and address operational concerns raised by customers.
The company is urging all customers with outstanding balances to settle their debts immediately or contact the ECG call centre for assistance. It also cautioned the public to beware of scams and to verify all payment information through ECG’s official communication channels.
