Firefighters rescue 16 after collision on Sunyani–Kumasi highway

Firefighters from the Bechem Fire Station have rescued 16 people following a head-on collision between a Ford Transit (AS 7172-23) and a Kia Rhino (AS 3058-X) at Nyamebekyere on the Sunyani–Kumasi highway.

The incident occurred earlier today, November 18, 2025, after a distress call was placed at 5:38 a.m.

An eight-member rescue team, led by STNO II Simon Yeboah, responded swiftly to the scene and extricated all 16 occupants; 14 from the Ford Transit and two from the Kia Rhino. The victims were transported to the Bechem Government Hospital and the PISGAH Advanced Medical Center for emergency treatment.

According to reports, although the victims sustained varying degrees of injuries, no fatalities were recorded. Both vehicles suffered extensive damage.

Authorities say investigations are underway to determine the cause of the accident.
