No fuel shortage in Ghana, NPA urges public to avoid panic buying

Ghana’s National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has assured the public that the country has enough petroleum products in stock and that fuel supply across the country remains stable amid speculation about possible shortages and price increases.

In a statement issued on March, 11, 2026, the Authority said concerns circulating in public discussions about global energy developments had created uncertainty among consumers, prompting the need to clarify the country’s fuel supply situation.

The statement, signed by the management of the NPA, said the Authority carried out a review of national petroleum stock levels and supply arrangements with the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition and industry players.

According to the Authority, the review showed that the country has enough Petrol, also known as Premium Motor Spirit, Diesel, Aviation Turbine Kerosene and Liquefied Petroleum Gas to meet present demand and expected consumption levels.

The NPA explained that these products play an important role in everyday life and the economy. Petrol and diesel affect transport costs and the prices of goods and services. Liquefied Petroleum Gas remains a common cooking fuel for many households in urban and peri urban communities, while Aviation Turbine Kerosene supports air transport and related economic activity.

The Authority said the government, through the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, has taken steps to maintain stable supply and limit price disruptions.

These measures include regular monitoring of national fuel stocks and coordination with International Oil Trading Companies, Bulk Import Distribution and Export Companies, BOST Energies and local refineries to facilitate timely imports and steady product distribution across the country.

The NPA said it is also strengthening supply planning and monitoring developments in the global petroleum market, which has seen price swings in recent months.

The Authority cautioned the public against panic buying, saying such behaviour could place unnecessary pressure on a supply chain that is currently operating normally.

“There is no cause for alarm or panic buying, as the petroleum supply chain continues to function normally and adequate stocks are available nationwide,” the statement said.

The NPA said it would continue to inform the public if there are any developments affecting the petroleum sector and reiterated that it remains responsible for maintaining orderly operations within the downstream petroleum industry.
