Ghana Armed Forces evacuates 3 injured survivors of Burkina Faso terror attack
The Ghana Armed Forces has successfully evacuated three Ghanaian traders who sustained injuries in the devastating terrorist attack that claimed the lives of eight of their compatriots in Titao, Burkina Faso, on Saturday, February 14, 2026.
The evacuation executed by the Ghana Air Force on February 17, forms part of a coordinated humanitarian and security response by the Ghanaian government to provide urgent assistance to citizens caught in the crosshairs of jihadist violence in the northern province of Burkina Faso.
The injured traders have since been conveyed to the 37 Military Hospital in Accra for further medical assessment and treatment, where they are expected to receive specialist care.
According to an official press release issued by the Department of Public Relations at General Headquarters, Burma Camp, on Wednesday, February 18, the mission represents a multi-agency effort involving the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, the Ministry of Defence, and the Ghana Armed Forces, all working in tandem to ensure the swift and safe extraction of the injured traders from the conflict zone.
"The Ghana Armed Forces has successfully evacuated three Ghanaian traders who were injured in a terrorist attack on Saturday 14 February 2026, in Burkina Faso. The evacuation forms part of the Government's coordinated humanitarian and security efforts. The mission was conducted on Tuesday 17 February 2026 by the Ghana Air Force. The injured have since been conveyed to the 37 Military Hospital for further medical assessment and treatment," the statement read.
The attack, which targeted members of the Ghana National Tomatoes Traders and Transporters Association engaged in lawful commercial activities in the Titao area, has sent shockwaves through the Ghanaian trading community and reignited urgent conversations about regional security cooperation in the face of escalating jihadist violence in the Sahel.
In a sombre acknowledgement of the human toll exacted by the attack, the Ghana Armed Forces extended its deepest sympathies to the families grappling with the loss of their loved ones. "The Ghana Armed Forces extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved families, prays for the repose of the souls of the deceased and wishes the injured a speedy recovery," the statement added, capturing the nation's collective grief and hope for the survivors' full recuperation.
The statement, signed by Captain (Ghana Navy) Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations, underscored the military's commitment to the welfare of Ghanaian citizens beyond the nation's borders, particularly in regions increasingly plagued by terrorist activity.
