
4 Nabbed over woman’s lynching
Four men have been arrested by the North East Regional Police Command in connection with the alleged murder of a 70-year-old woman over a witchcraft accusation at Sangbana, a farming community in the Bunkpurugu/Yunyoo district in the region.
The suspects have been identified as Suuk Jakwa, 67; Banyiwoo Ntookwib, 32; Moapya Kwayaja, 30, and Amos Nlaji, 29.
They were said to have conspired with others who are currently on the run to attack and lynch the deceased, Noab Bilatukin.
Confirmation
Confirming the incident, the North East Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Robert Anabiik Anamain, said on July 10, 2025, the suspects allegedly accused the woman of being a witch and casting spells in the community.
They went ahead to violently lynch her before fleeing.
Acting on credible intelligence, DSP Anamain said the police tracked down and apprehended the four suspects at their various hideouts around Bunkpurugu on Monday, July 14, 2025.
He added that the suspects were currently in custody and assisting police with further investigations.
Commitment
While condemning the act, DSP Anamain reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring that all persons involved faced the full rigours of the law.
He further urged the public to desist from mob actions and witchcraft accusations, stressing that anyone found culpable would be prosecuted.
