Afriwave Telecom supports St. Martins SHS with borehole, other facilities

Afriwave Telecom has supported St Martin’s Senior High School at Nsawam, Adoagyiri in the Eastern Region, with the construction of a borehole and washroom facilities.

The provision of the facilities formed part of the company’s corporate social responsibility of enriching the lives of people in the community they operate in.

The washroom and urinal facilities were inaugurated by the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Afriwave Telecom, Francis Poku, together with his staff members.

St. Martins SHS is a Catholic and government facility with a student population of about 2, 800.

Speaking at the event, Mr Poku said the facilities provided were not the first time the company had taken up such initiatives. 

Assistance

Afriwave, he said as a socially responsible company, believed in assisting the schools in their operational areas by giving them the necessary support to improve the well-being of students.

He said a functional washroom was a basic requirement of hygiene in a school with a large student population.

Mr Poku further stated that public schools needed more infrastructure and therefore the construction of the washroom facilities and water was a confirmation of Afriwave’s commitment to supporting quality education in Ghana and giving back to society.

He said Afriwave Telecom was interested in education, which it believed was the backbone of every economy and that was why “We have focused our energies in assisting schools to improve its infrastructure”.

Education

He urged the students to take their education with all seriousness and take good care of the facilities to serve their purpose and make their time at the school less stressful.

“Why destroy something beneficial to your well-being?” he asked.

The headmaster of the school, Paul. A. Agbakpe, thanked the management and staff of Afriwave Telecom for taking a major burden off his shoulders.

He said getting the students a functional washroom and urinal facilities was one of his main objectives since assuming office.

He promised to take good care of the facilities and called on corporate organisations to support the school in whichever way they could.
