Akyem Achiase SHS gets mechanised borehole

A GH¢49,000 mechanised borehole has been inaugurated for the Akyem Achiase Senior High School (ACHISEC) in the Eastern Region to solve the acute perennial water shortage the staff and students of the institution have faced for years.

A USA-based Christian non-governmental organisation (NGO), My Anchor Holds Outreach, provided GH¢34,000 to fund the facility, with the Member of Parliament (MP) for Achiase, Kofi Ahenkorah Marfo, contributing GH¢10,000, while the school's Board Chairman, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) retd. K.K. Amoah, supplementing with GH¢5,000.

The Oda Methodist Diocesan Bishop, Rt Rev. Isaac Kwame Boateng, who is a board member of the school, through whose instrumentality the borehole was constructed, inaugurated the facility.

Speaking at the ceremony, Rt Rev. Boateng said that at one of the board meetings, the school's Headmaster, Frank Gyimah Aniagyei, complained bitterly about the outbreak of waterborne disease in the school due to an acute water shortage and appealed to him to use his influential position in society to help find a solution to the problem.

He said he contacted the Chief Executive Officer of the USA-based NGO, Eugenia Obeng Darko, to assist and she responded positively to the request.

Rt Rev. Boateng stated that when the NGO started sinking the borehole, the MP, Mr Marfo and the school’s Board Chairperson,  ACP (rtd) Amoah came in to offer their support.

He advised the school's staff and students to take proper care of the facility to extend its lifespan.

Prevent contamination

The Bishop was grateful to the NGO for providing a similar mechanised borehole for the Oda Senior High School two years ago and also responding to the dire need of ACHISEC.

Rt Rev. Boateng specifically admonished the students to keep the facility clean to prevent water contamination.

The MP, Mr Marfo, advised students of the school to study very hard to justify the huge investment being made in them.

He stressed that he was so passionate about the welfare of the staff and students of ACHISEC that he had reached an advanced stage of negotiations with the Roads Minister to have the school's roads tarred in no time.

The MP promised to provide a water filtration machine for the borehole's water soon.

The Headmaster of ACHISEC, Mr Aniagyei, thanked the NGO, the MP and ACP Amoah for the gesture and promised to take good care of the facility.

Other speakers at the function included the Achiase District Director of Education, Samuel Wadier Kwae.
