Also in attendance were the Moderator of the PCG, Rt Rev. Dr Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye; former Moderators and the Chairpersons of the various Presbyteries of the PCG.
The service was marked by thanksgiving, tributes and a powerful sermon delivered by Rev. Dr Odonkor on the theme: “God’s Gift of Time”.
Legacy of Service
Rev. Dr Odonkor’s six-year tenure as Clerk of the General Assembly has been marked by diligence and faithfulness.
He has overseen key initiatives that strengthened the church’s structures, promoting evangelism and enhancing the visibility of the PCG worldwide. His leadership style, anchored in clarity and discipline, has left a lasting impression on congregants.
Under his stewardship, the Clerk’s office became a hub of coordination, ensuring that the vision of a Christ-centred, self-sustaining and growing church was consistently pursued. His ability to blend administrative precision with spiritual depth was lauded at the service.
Tributes poured in from Rt Rev. Opare Kwakye and other distinguished personalities in and outside the church, all of them acknowledging Rev. Dr Odonkor’s humility, dedication, and commitment to strengthening the administrative life of the church.
Time as God’s Gift
In his sermon, Rev. Dr Odonkor described time as one of God’s greatest gifts to humanity. “Another name for God is time. Time is a gift from God. God is timeless, but it is for our sake that God has reckoned time,” he said.
He reminded the congregation that service and progress lay in the womb of time, urging Christians to engage meaningfully with time and use it to add value to their lives and communities.
He emphasised that when God’s appointed time arrived, His purpose was achieved.
“God’s time is always the right time,” he noted, encouraging believers to trust in divine timing even when human plans faltered.
Importance of Rest
Rev. Dr Odonkor explained .the biblical principle of rest, drawing from the creation account.
“God rested on the seventh day.
Rest and human leisure are important,” he said.
He explained that rest is no longer imposed but must be intentional, stressing the need to balance work and rest in order to renew strength and remain effective in service.
Quoting Isaiah, he reminded the congregation that “those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength,” adding that to rest in the Lord was to wait patiently on Him.
The outgoing Clerk of the General Assembly expressed heartfelt appreciation to directors and officers of the church for their support throughout his tenure.
He saluted ministers of the church, political leaders and traditional authorities for their encouragement and partnership in advancing the mission of the PCG.
