Education Minister inaugurates Paul Effah Conference facility
The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, yesterday inaugurated a 600-capacity multi-purpose Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) conference facility named after the foundation’s Executive Secretary of the National Council for Tertiary Education, Paul Effah.
The facility, equipped to host a wide range of events including seminars, conferences, workshops, annual general meetings, and other social gatherings, was named after Mr Effah in honour of his pioneering role in tertiary education.
The facility was originally constructed in 2010 but had not undergone any renovation and had consequently deteriorated significantly until October 2024, when a contractor was engaged and the renovation project began in November 2024, with an initial completion date set for January 2025.
The facility has additional halls named after precious executive secretaries of the National Council for Tertiary Education (NCTE) and the current Director-General of the GTEC, ideal for breakout sessions, seminars, and executive meetings. The halls are Nikoi Kotey Hall, Kwame Dattey Hall and Ahmed Jinapor Hall.
Although the timeline experienced some delays due to unforeseen circumstances, the facility was finally completed last Tuesday.
The refurbished facility has been thoughtfully redesigned with clients’ needs in mind.
The facility has sound and video systems managed by experienced technicians to deliver quality audio and video production, ultra-modern washrooms designed for the comfort of clients, and fully air-conditioned to ensure a pleasant atmosphere at all times.
Mr Effah was the first Executive Secretary of the NCTE, having been appointed in 1999 and was credited for a pioneering role in tertiary education and for laying the foundation of what is now the GTEC.
Speaking before the inauguration, Mr Iddrisu commended past executive secretaries and other directors for their pioneering role in promoting tertiary education.
To Mr Effah, the minister was happy that the GTEC was recognising his contribution to higher education in the country, adding, “The country remains grateful to you.
“On behalf of the Ministry of Education and my able staff, I want to commend you. To the others who are here, take note that tomorrow may be your opportunity to be recognised by the ministry or the GTEC.
“I am sure the greatest joy beyond today you can give Mr Effah is your maintenance culture of this beautiful edifice of a facility. Thank you for appreciating what this hall provides,” the minister said.
