The Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International (FGBMFI) has made a heartfelt appeal to address the nation’s growing environmental crisis, particularly the destruction of water bodies.
It lamented how greed and the unchecked pursuit of wealth, especially through illegal gold mining, had devastated the country’s environment, poisoning rivers and depleting natural resources.
The International President of FGBMFI, Francis Owusu, warned that the moral decay behind such actions is deeply rooted in societal values shaped by materialism and a lack of spiritual direction.
While acknowledging Ghana’s God-given blessings, he lamented the nation’s moral and socio-economic decline, driven by greed and disunity.
However, he emphasised that unity in Christ across denominations can reverse this trajectory and lead to national revival.
Event
Mr Owusu was speaking at the 2025 National Convention of the FGBMFI, which opened in Accra last Thursday.
The three-day convention, on the theme: "Pursuing The Greatest Business", focused on forums, women and youth summits, marriage seminars and evening rallies.
It brought together members of the diplomatic corps, government representatives, traditional leaders, regional directors and coordinators and members from across the nation, Africa and Europe.
Notable among the dignitaries were the FGBMFI National President, Emmanuel Baba Mahama; former Chief Justice of Ghana, Her Ladyship Georgina Theodora Wood; acting Director General of Public Relations for the Ghana Armed Forces, Naval Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, and Founder of the Salt and Light Ministries, Rev. Dr Joyce Aryee.
Others were the High Commissioner of the Republic of South Africa to Ghana, Grace Jeanet Mason; the Kenya High Commissioner to Ghana, Shem Ishahilidza Amadi; the Executive President of the Ghana Baptist Convention, Rev. Enoch Nii Narh Thompson; and the National Director of the Great Commission Movement of Ghana, Rev. Kumah Doe.
Also present were the General Overseer, Covenant Public Community Chapel, Rev. Dennis Osei Manu, and the Board Chair, Great Commission Movement of Ghana, Angela Pesa.
Spiritual awakening
Emphasising the theme of the convention, “Pursuing the Greatest Business”, Mr Owusu linked the environmental crisis to a larger spiritual problem, calling on the fellowship and the broader Christian community to rise as agents of moral and ecological transformation.
He stressed that the gospel is not just about personal salvation but also about stewardship — including caring for creation and protecting God’s blessings for future generations.
"Ghana, as a nation, has been blessed by God. Sadly, however, ladies and gentlemen, this nation, after 68 years of independence, stands at a crossroads as it strives to attain its God-given destiny.
This is a nation abundantly blessed with both natural and human resources, yet it lags behind its peers in Asia and in Latin America," he said.
He urged members of the fellowship to lead by example in their communities and workplaces, promoting integrity, environmental responsibility and unity of purpose.
Role
Mr Owusu highlighted the fellowship’s unique role as a lay movement for end-time harvest, calling all members to shine with integrity, serve selflessly and operate as one body under the Holy Spirit.
He reminded the audience that revival must touch not only the soul but the soil — challenging the body of Christ in Ghana to pursue the "greatest business" with boldness, faith and a renewed commitment to preserving the environment as part of their divine calling.
Divine appointment
The national President of the FGBMFI Ghana, in a welcome address, described the 2025 National Convention as a divinely appointed moment for spiritual renewal and recommissioning.
He emphasised that the theme, "Pursuing the Greatest Business", is not just a slogan but a heaven-sent call to prioritise the proclamation of the gospel above all else.
Mr Mahama expressed confidence that the event would be marked by powerful encounters with God through worship, prayer and the Word — rekindling passion, equipping believers and reviving commitment to the Great Commission.
He urged attendees to see themselves as vital members of a global spiritual family united under Christ’s banner, and called on them to make this convention a turning point in their personal walk with God and their role in reaching the lost.
