GTEC presents vehicles to 4 Colleges of Education
The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has presented a vehicle each to four colleges of education.
The St. Francis College of Education, the Atebubu College of Education and the Gbewaa College of Education received a Toyota Land Cruiser each, while the Akatsi College of Education received one Toyota Hiace bus.
The vehicles are to support mobility and enhance the operational efficiency of the schools.
Presentation
The Director-General of GTEC, Professor Abdulai Jinapor, presented the keys to the vehicles to the chairpersons of the colleges, who then handed them over to the principals.
He highlighted the myriad of challenges facing the colleges of education and gave them the assurance that the government was working to provide all the 46 colleges of education with vehicles.
“We are not looking at just vehicles, but we are also looking at other infrastructure needs, such as hostels, laboratories, classrooms, and accommodation for staff,” he said.
He further assured the schools that the government was exploring alternative sources of support to address the needs of the various colleges of education.
Prof. Jinapor reminded the principals that the vehicles were for the schools and must therefore, be used for the benefit of the schools.
He, therefore, urged the beneficiary institutions to put the vehicles to good use for the benefit of their respective institutions.
Accreditation
The Director-General urged parents to take active interest in the education of their children by ensuring that they enrolled in programmes that had been accredited by GTEC.
“So we want to use this platform to caution parents to go on the GTEC website and find out programmes that are accredited and choose those programmes. In fact, if you are applying to an institution, find out from the institution if those programmes are accredited,” he added.
Gratitude
The Chairperson of the Akatsi College of Education, Olivia Ama Seglah-Woanyah, on behalf of the beneficiaries, expressed gratitude to GTEC for the gesture.
She assured the Director-General that the vehicles would be put to good use to enhance the colleges’ operational efficiency.
