Health Ministry supports Oda Government Hospital

The Ministry of Health (MoH) has presented assorted essential medical equipment worth GH¢5 million to the Akyem Oda Government Hospital to enhance quality healthcare delivery to the patrons of the health facility.

The gesture is part of the plans by the Ministry of Health to upgrade the Oda Government Hospital to reflect its status as one of the oldest hospitals in the country.

The items included three phototherapy machines, two incubators, 26 hospital beds and diathermy patient monitors, among others.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Oda, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, who is also a Deputy Minister of Health, made the presentation at a ceremony in Oda last Monday.

Response

Mr Acquah said the donation was in response to an appeal made by the management of the hospital to the Ministry of Health through him.

He said the Ministry of Health was taking realistic measures to provide Oda with a new modern hospital considering the large number of patients from parts of the Eastern, Central and Ashanti regions who patronised the facility daily.

The deputy minister explained that a quantity of medical equipment included in the package would be donated to a new clinic under construction at Essam near Oda.

The Acting Medical Superintendent of the Oda Government Hospital, Dr Felix Asiedu, who received the items, thanked the Ministry of Health for the donation, saying it would help in the efficient delivery of service.

He stated that since he took over as the Acting Medical Superintendent, the MP for Akyem Oda, Mr Acquah, had contributed significantly to the development of the facility.

Meanwhile, the MoH has started renovating the hospital's maternity ward, which is in a deplorable state.

The renovation was in response to a series of stories published by the Daily Graphic on the deplorable condition of facilities at the hospit.
