Ho Sector Collection of GRA exceeds revenue target in first quarter

The Ho Sector Collection of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has already exceeded its revenue target for the first quarter of 2026 by eight per cent.

The sector bagged GH₵25million as against the targeted GH₵23million, representing an increase of 16.73 per cent.

Assistant Commissioner (AC), Ports Operation and Customs Division of the GRA, Theodore Kafui Ahiable, who is the Ho Sector Commander, disclosed this to the Daily Graphic in an interview in Ho last Friday.

This was after he inspected a quarter guard formation held to congratulate him on his promotion from the rank of Chief Revenue Officer (CRO) to Assistant Commissioner (AC).

Last year, the sector recorded a revenue of GH₵82.47 million, representing 16.73 per cent over the set target.

The Sector Commander said the positive revenue collection trend was also the result of regular sensitisation and education sessions between the GRA and traders on the need for traders to pay duties on their merchandise in the national interest.

“We listen to their problems and help to address them,” said AC Ahiable.

He said the prospects for future revenue collection were very bright, explaining the completion of the Big Push agenda in the region would bring about very good roads, which would facilitate swift and smooth trading as well as more revenue for the state.

For now, the sector commander said, some residents along the border communities of Agotime-Afegame, Batume Junction, Shia, and Kpadafe were undertaking communal labour to fill the potholes on the roads in support of economic activities, while waiting for the completion of the Big Push Agenda.

He said the sector was now set to compute its revenue on a weekly basis to boost the 24 Hour Economy initiative of the government.

Challenges

Touching on challenges, AC Ahiable said the rising trend in which some fake national security operatives intercepted traders along the routes and extorted from them was inimical to revenue collection and very frustrating to the traders.

“We are taking the appropriate steps to address that problem,” he affirmed.

The sector commander said the greatest concern of the traders was now the completion of work on the roads in the regions in a timely manner.

Meanwhile, AC Ahiable said there were cordial working ties between the GRA and their Togolese counterparts to ensure smooth cross-border trading activities and easy revenue collection.

He entreated traders to transport their goods on roadworthy trucks to avoid breakdowns on the roads, which led to extra expenses.

AC Ahiable commended personnel of the GRA at their various duty posts in the sector for their hard work, dedication to duty, and professionalism, saying the revenue collection trend testified to their competence on the job.
