Retired Ministers of the Assemblies of God Church in the East and West zones of the church in the Greater Accra Region and their spouses trooped to the Ringway branch of the church for the quarterly free health screening programme organised by the Lordina Foundation.
The exercise, the fourth in a series already organised by the foundation, provides vital health consultation and free medication to ensure the continued well-being of the retirees of the Assemblies of God church.
The initiative was instituted by the First Lady, Lordina Mahama, through the Lordina Foundation, following a pledge she made during a church event in September 2024 to provide free and regular health support for members of the Assemblies of God Retired Ministers and Spouses Association.
First exercise
The inaugural event was held in November 2024, and has since been held each year.
The fourth edition attracted more than 130 participants who received laboratory tests covering essential indicators, including blood sugar levels, Hepatitis B, certain cancers, and prostate health.
General practitioners, gynaecologists, urologists, dietitians and optometrists were among the specialists who handled the screening and consultations.
Diligently served
She said the retirees had diligently served the church, the community and the nation and reiterated that the initiative was one of the ways the Lordina Foundation gave back to society and supported those who had dedicated their whole lives to serving others.
The First Lady advised beneficiaries to take their medicines and follow-up consultations seriously, as that was the only way to see real improvement in their health, and expressed her appreciation to the incredible medical team for their professionalism, compassion and unwavering dedication.
A board member of the Lordina Foundation, Dr George Selorm Quarcoe, addressing beneficiaries in Accra yesterday said the occasion was especially meaningful because it brought together men and women who had faithfully served the church and community with dedication and sacrifice.
He stressed that health and education were not just necessities, but the very pillars upon which thriving communities are built and through the foundation’s programmes, they aim to support and uplift those who have devoted their lives to service.
The board member encouraged beneficiaries to take full advantage of the service, adding that “health is a lifelong journey and proper treatment with full adherence to medical advice is key to living longer, healthier and more fulfilling lives”.
Burden of church
For his part, Reverend Nelson Arwintia, the Assemblies of God Regional Superintendent overseeing Accra West and East, said the support of the First Lady had taken a burden off the shoulders of the church, adding that “since she started this, no retired minister has come to the office asking for support.”
The President of the Assemblies of God Retired Ministers and Spouses Association, Reverend Dr Harry Insaidoo, indicated that the members received the continued assistance of the foundation with a heart full of gratitude.
