Nana Awuah-Darko Ampem II constructs ward for hospital

AN 18-bed female ward for the Juaben Government Municipal Hospital built and furnished by the Juaben Nkosuohene, Nana Awuah-Darko Ampem II, has been inaugurated.

The GH¢c2-million facility comprises two special wards, a side ward, four oxygen concentration equipment, places of convenience, a delivery suite and offices.

Hitherto, both male and female patients used the same facility which inhibited privacy.

The Nkosuohene, known in private life as Mr Harold Quarshie Awuah-Darko, the Group Chairman of Nationwide Medical Insurance and Healthcare Network, dedicated the project to the memory of his late father, the first Nkosuohene of Asante Juaben, Nana Awuah-Darko Ampem I.

Capacity building

The Nkosuohene, who was enstooled recently, has also promised to build an Information and Communications Technology (ICT) centre in Juaben to build the capacity of the youth in ICT to compete favourably with their counterparts across the nations of the world.

He said plans were also afoot to create job opportunities for the youth by establishing companies in the area.

Nana Ampem, who is also the Group Chairman of the United Pension Trust and affiliate companies, called for support to promote the development of the town.

Commendation

The Juabenhene and Chairman of the Council of State, Nana Otuo Siriboe II, commended the Nkosuohene for the project and urged the hospital’s management to take good care of the ward.

He called for a national policy on maintenance to preserve the country's assets.

The Juabenhene said until that was done, government buildings would continue to deteriorate due to negligence.

On the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Nana Otuo Siriboe expressed optimism that Ghana could achieve the goals on education and health if stringent measures were put in place to implement policies in the two sectors.

He observed that education and health were two crucial areas that could improve economic gains for accelerated development.

For his part, the Medical Superintendent of the hospital, Dr Bosque-Hamilton, said the facility was established in 1987 from a healthcare centre and that it catered for over 30,000 people within and outside the municipality.
