SHS placement out Sept 17 — Education Ministry

Results for this year's senior high school (SHS) placement for qualified Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) graduates will be out on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, the Ministry of Education has indicated.

It said from September 1 to 8, 2025, the system would be opened for candidates to review their entries, confirm their choices, their biodata, among other things.

On September 9, 2025, explainer videos for the checking of placement would be released.

The ministry said on Thursday, September 18, 2025, call centres and district resolution centres would be set up for candidates who might have issues with their placement to seek redress.

Reporting

The acting Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Professor Ernest Kofi Davis, speaking at a press conference in Accra yesterday on behalf of the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, said first year second cycle students would report for school on October 18, this year.

The press conference was to provide the roadmap for this year's placement exercise following the release of the 2025 BECE results at the weekend.

Prof. Davis assured candidates, parents, guardians and other stakeholders that placement into SHSs, senior high technical schools and technical vocational education and training (TVET) institutions in the country would be merit-based and delivered by a system built on fairness.

“I wish to assure all stakeholders, including parents and guardians, that the 2025 placement exercise will be carried out in fair, transparent and merit-based manner,” he said.

Since June this year, the DG said, sensitisation had been undertaken across the country on the placement exercise and that resource persons from the Ministry of Education, GES, the Computerised School Selection and Placement Secretariat and the Free SHS Secretariat had visited communities across the country to share the guidelines for school selection with candidates, parents and school authorities.

Unique

Something unique, Prof. Davis said, was introduced this year. “In order to reduce some of the obvious errors associated with school selection or school placement, candidates will have the opportunity to review the entries they have made, such as gender, school codes, or programme codes.

“The process will be conducted online at www.cssps.gov.gh, and this will be supported by an explainer video to guide parents and guardians, so they have the opportunity to review their entries before we go ahead to place them.

This will reduce the number of errors that are often associated with placement.

“This exercise is expected to commence on September 1 and end on September 8. This will be followed by the actual placement exercise, which will commence on September 17,” he emphasised.

Prof. Davis said the placement exercise was free.

“School placement is free, it is totally free. It is not for sale. Ministry of Education or GES is not linked to this illegal business.

Anybody who sells placement to a parent or guardian is, therefore, doing an illegal business. As such, persons who approach you to sell placement should be reported to the law enforcement agencies to be apprehended,” he said.

The GES, the Director-General said, had received the results from the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and had begun processing the data.

He said placement would be matched against vacancies in the second cycle institutions, and that the process was expected to take not more than three weeks.

“We hope by three weeks we should be ready,” he said.

Misinformation

To address the issue of misinformation, Prof. Davis urged the media and the general public to rely on official channels of communication from the Ministry of Education, GES, CSSPS Secretariat or TVET Service.

“We shall continue to provide timely updates to prevent panic and speculation. We count on the support of all stakeholders to ensure a smooth placement exercise this year,” he said.
