Slain Immigration officer laid to rest

Assistant Immigration Control Officer (AICOI), Cosmos Dakurah, who was shot by unidentified assailants earlier this month, was laid to rest last Saturday in his hometown of Konzokala, in the Jirapa District of the Upper West Region.

It was a very sad sight to behold when the leadership of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) joined the families and community members to pay their last respect to their fallen colleague, brother, father and kin.

Attack

AICO Dakurah, 24, together with his colleague, AICO I Philip Lartey, were reportedly ambushed by some unidentified gunmen while they were returning from duty on a motorbike.

The incident occurred on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at Nangani in the Tempane District in the Upper East Region.

The two were initially treated at a clinic in Tempane before they were transferred to the Regional Hospital in Bolgatanga, where Dakurah succumbed to the injuries in the early hours of November 3, 2025.

The delegation from the GIS was made up of the Upper West Regional Commander of GIS, Deputy Commissioner of Immigration (DCOI) Justice Bosomtwi Ayensu; the Upper East Region Regional Commander, DCOI Felix Agyeman Bosompem, and the Deputy Upper East Regional Commander, DCOI Francis Banning.

There were also officers from the Upper West Regional Command.

Tributes

The late AICO Dakurah was described as a very determined and hardworking young man who gave his all to his work and an embodiment of humility, discipline and patriotism.

His wife, Diana Yeboah, paid an emotional tribute, describing him as “a loving husband, mentor and friend.

“He was my partner, my rock, my teacher and my guardian.

“He taught me to be strong and independent. Even though he is gone, I know he is in a better place.

I will miss him every day,” she said through her tears.

The GIS also described him as “a disciplined, hardworking and dedicated to his duties”.

It said his sudden death was a painful reminder of the risks the officers faced in their line of duty.

“His memory will forever remain in our hearts,” the GIS tribute said.
