Volta Power Queens support Ho Female Prison
The Volta Region branch of the Power Queens of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has urged the public to contribute vigorously to the reform of convicts by supporting them with their basic needs.
“Prisoners need the love and help of all and sundry to turn away from vice and come out to readily reintegrate into society,” said the President of the Volta Power Queens, Rose Amegbletor.
She made the remark when the Volta Power Queens presented a consignment of food items, detergents and sanitary pads worth GH 12,000 to the Ho Female Prison during the Yuletide.
The items included bags of rice, beans, gari, maize; cooking, milk, beverages, biscuits, milk, cooking oil, assorted soft drinks, spaghetti, toilet rolls and soap.
Show empathy
Mrs Amegbletor reminded the public that one could be wrongly jailed due to their inability to engage the services of a lawyer during trial and, therefore, they should show empathy whenever they could.
“A convict loses his or her right to personal freedom and not his or her right to personal dignity, "she further explained.
Mrs Amegbletor gave an assurance that the Volta Power Queens would continue to support the welfare of inmates at the correctional centre and appealed to other organisations and public-spirited individuals to help the inmates.
A Chief Superintendent of Prison, CSP Beatrice Mensah, who received the items, expressed gratitude for the gesture, saying it would definitely bring them some
comfort for a while.
She appealed to other organisations to help the inmates with similar donations.
