Ghana School of Law lecturers threaten to go on strike

Lecturers of the Ghana School of law have threatened to boycott lectures for two weeks over the recent mass failure of students in the 2018 law examination.

The results said to be the worst bar exams result ever recorded in the history of the school as only 64 out of 521 students who sat for the exams representing nine per cent passed.

According to Citi news, the lecturers who were been blamed for the bad results, have called on the Independent Examination Committee to remark only the exams questions drawn from the course outline given the students over 100 per cent and then re-collate the exams scores.

The lecturers have further threatened to resign all-together if the General Legal Counsel (GLC) refuses to meet their demand within a week.

Background

The results released by the Independent Examinations Committee of the GLC saw 64 students passing the exams while 177 students were referred in one or two papers.

Also, out of the 10 subjects taken in the exam, students who fail three subjects are deemed to have failed the entire course and are required to repeat the whole course and write all ten papers again. And a ‘C’ is a failed mark.

Any student who wishes to apply for remarking is expected to cough up a whopping GHS3,000 ($556) per paper.
