Fire Service contains outbreak at Oyoko Methodist SHS; Housemaster's apartment destroyed
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has successfully contained a fire outbreak at Oyoko Methodist Senior High School in Koforidua on the evening of Monday, August 4, 2025.
According to a statement issued by the GNFS, the fire affected only a two-bedroom self-contained apartment occupied by the housemaster on the first floor of a one-storey building. The blaze destroyed the roof, ceiling, furniture, home appliances, and other personal belongings in the apartment.
Thanks to the swift and skilful intervention of the firefighters, the adjoining boys’ dormitory was successfully salvaged from the spread.
The GNFS said it received the distress call at 6:24 pm and dispatched two fire engines, one from the New Juaben North Municipal Fire Station and another from the Regional Headquarters.
The first crew, led by ADO I Asare, arrived at 6:34 pm, brought the fire under control by 7:24 pm, and fully extinguished it by 8:29 pm.
No casualties were recorded.
Preliminary investigations suggest the fire may have been caused by an electrical fault within the ceiling of the housemaster’s residence. However, a full investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause.
The GNFS reminded the public of the need for routine electrical inspections in residential and institutional buildings to prevent such incidents.
