Gold dealer killed at Nkasiem

A popular gold dealer at Nkasiem, a town in the newly created Asutifi South District in the Brong Ahafo Region, was last Tuesday shot and killed at his residence by a gang of armed robbers.

The robbers, who numbered about three and wielded pump action guns, were reported to have invaded the town around 7.30 p.m. amidst indiscriminate firing and later made away with an unspecified amount of money belonging to the deceased.

The body of the deceased, John Peprah, an elder of the Church of Pentecost, has been deposited at the St. Elizabeth Hospital morgue at Hwidiem, the district capital, for autopsy.

Some residents who spoke to the Daily Graphic on the attack by the robbers, said they were living in fear and appealed to the police for protection.

When the police were contacted over the incident, the Asunafo North Municipal  Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Twumasi Ankrah, confirmed the story and said no arrest had been made so far.

He said a team of policemen had been deployed in the town to maintain law and order, while a manhunt had been launched to bring the perpetrators to book.

Nkasiem is noted for illegal gold-mining activities, locally referred to as "galamsey".
