Government imposes cost-cutting measures to strengthen fiscal discipline
The Ministry of Finance has announced a series of cost-cutting measures aimed at reducing government expenditure and strengthening financial management.
Speaking at a meeting with World Bank Division Director Robert Taliercio O’Brien and his team, Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to fiscal discipline, particularly within the framework of the IMF-supported programme.
"In a decisive move to strengthen fiscal discipline, Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has outlined a series of cost-cutting measures aimed at reducing government expenditure and ensuring prudent financial management," the Ministry said in a post on X.
Dr Forson emphasised that non-essential conference travel would no longer be funded, and delegation sizes would be significantly reduced to enhance efficiency.
He also revealed substantial budget cuts, including reductions within the Office of the President, ensuring that public funds are directed towards projects that drive economic growth.
