GTEC demands proof of doctoral title from former Internal Audit agency Director-General Eric Oduro Osae

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has directed the former Director-General of the Internal Audit Agency, Dr Eric Oduro Osae, to provide verifiable evidence supporting his use of the academic title “Dr.”

In a letter dated October 8, 2025, and signed by GTEC’s Director-General, Professor Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, the Commission requested that Dr Osae submit official documentation confirming the conferral of a terminal degree such as a PhD or EdD from a recognised and accredited academic institution.

The directive follows preliminary discussions between Dr Osae and the Commission concerning his use of the title. GTEC noted that it considers the unauthorized or inappropriate use of academic titles a serious offence, describing such acts as misleading and contrary to established academic protocols.

The Commission asked Dr Osae to provide the name of the awarding institution, a copy of his degree certificate, and an official academic transcript for verification.

It further stated that should he fail to provide the requested documents, he must immediately desist from using the title “Dr.” and furnish proof that it has been withdrawn from all official and public platforms, including institutional profiles, letterheads, and websites.

Dr. Osae has until October 17, 2025, to comply with the directive.

GTEC said the action forms part of its commitment to upholding academic integrity and ensuring that professional titles used in the country are backed by legitimate qualifications.
