The Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, says the administration was making frantic efforts to trace the location of a policeman complaining of neglect after he developed a sore on his leg following an accident.
That, it said, was to give him proper medical treatment.
In a video shared on social media, the policeman is seen alleging, among other things, that he has been neglected by the police administration after his accident.
He, therefore, pleaded with Ghanaians to come to his aid.
But responding to the complaint, the IGP told journalists last Wednesday that the police administration was committed to the welfare of personnel.
He explained that the said policeman had not been neglected and that he was initially on treatment at the police hospital, but opted to look for other treatment options after doctors decided to amputate his leg.
He explained that the policeman was involved in an accident and was brought to the police hospital.
In the course of treatment, he said he developed a foot problem, which was getting worse, and then the doctors recommended that to save the situation, they had to amputate the leg below the knee level.
During consultations with the policeman and his family for consent, they (policeman and family) objected to the amputation, and decided to look for other [herbal] treatment options, which the doctors allowed.
Mr Yohuno said that in the course of the family and patient going to look for either herbal or other treatment, the condition of the foot began getting worse.
In trying to get back, he said the police struggled to get his contact number.
So efforts are being made to get to know where exactly he is, and then if there is a need to bring him back.
A delay, he said, could lead to the situation worsening.
Mr Yohuno said the only solution should be the medical treatment rather than going for spiritual and herbal treatment.
