Innovative packaging of ingredients for preparing waakye wins UNIMAC 2025 entrepreneurship day fair
Students of the University of Media, Arts, and Communication (UNIMAC), last Saturday organised an entrepreneurship day fair, dubbed EDF 2025, where various innovative products, numbering 50, were showcased in a competition by aspiring entrepreneurs.
At the end of the day, an innovative, eco-friendly way of packaging ingredients for easily preparing waakye, a rice meal known as Mama's Blend, was adjudged the overall best idea by the judges.
The Mama's Blend product ingredient is made up of a combination of pepper mix (powdered shito), waakye cubes and leaves sauce (hibiscus), all meant for preparing waakye.
It is aimed at enabling busy individuals and students to be able to prepare the waakye meal in a convenient way.
The packaging and the product quality caught the attention of the judges especially as it was free from artificial preservatives and additives.
How to prepare it
All one needs to do is to pour the desired quantity of the Mama's Blend into boiling water and cook with beans, add rice when the bean is ready and that is it.
The entrepreneurship day fair, an annual event, is normally organised by the Department of Marketing under the Faculty of Public Relations, Advertising, and Integrated Marketing.
The highlight of the fair was the pitch competition, where the 50 exhibitors (students) had the chance to pitch their ideas to the panel of judges.
The students, as part of the course work, were actively involved in organising the event, setting up exhibition booths, arranging the catering and logistics, and ensuring the smooth execution of the competition.
The entrepreneurship fair was to help connect the students to partners, investors, and mentors for networking opportunities, internships, and job placement.
Nii Nookwei Tackie, the entrepreneurship course lecturer, advised the students to develop an entrepreneurial mindset and pursue business opportunities.
Jehoshabeth Adelaide Amenyah, the lead of the Mama's Blend group, stated that the win was a significant milestone for the group.
